 Teens and ‘Tweens, Challenge Your Creativity

August 4, 6:30 at The Library

6:30 PM:  Didgeridoo Down Under – Not to be Missed!   

G’day from down under! On Thursday, August 4, at 6:30 p.m., the Lenox Library will feature the Australian sound of Didgeridoo Down Under, with music, puppetry, and character building family entertainment, outside in the library’s reading park.   Join us for a great show! 

7:45 PM   Aussie Funk Jam Workshop – Learn to play the didg! 

Teens and tweens, ages 11 to 18, can learn to play the didg in the didgeridoo funk jam workshop following the show at 7:45. Call 637-0197 ext. 106 or stop by to register for the workshop. Adults may attend if room is available.

This event is FREE, thanks to Legacy Banks Foundation and Berkshire Bank.

Our local Quidditch team will give a brief demonstration of the sport, snowy owls will be present to greet visitors, an original shadow puppet play will be presented and a tour of Hogwarts will be offered. Admission will be charged and Honeydukes candy will be available for purchase. All proceeds will help sponsor future library youth programs. Our Summer Reading Program officially kicks off on Thursday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. with magician Peter Boie, the “Magician for Non-Believers.”  Peter started learning magic from a library book at age 11, and now he is Massachusettts libraries’ #1 favorite entertainer.  The program is fun for all ages, so be ready to be amazed!  And kids, be sure to sign up to read books and earn prizes.

Our popular summer schedule of events for youth gets underway musically on Tuesday, July 5, with Terry a la Berry singing his toe-tapping folk tunes in the park.  Join us every Tuesday at 1:00 through the end of August to sing along, dance, or picnic on the lawn.

Do you love origami? Would you like to learn some fantastic folding techniques AND help us finish our paper crane project for Japan? Come learn basic and more in-depth folding techniques with our teen origami experts on Saturday, May 28th at 1:30 p.m. Then stay and help us finish stringing together over a thousand paper cranes that local students and community members have created in conjunction with the Lenox Library. The finished project will be sent to one of the schools in northern Japan as a way to extend our sympathy to the people of Japan. VACATION WEEK FAMILY EVENT!

Fun with Science – FOSSILS AND DINOSAURS

On Wednesday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m., intrepid fossil hunter, Paulette Morin, will introduce children, ages 4 to 12, to the wonders of our prehistoric past and dinosaurs. Families will learn what wonders lurk beneath the soil and in the rock ledges of our region. Hundreds of fossil specimens will be on hand to examine. These fascinating series can easily lead to a favorite new hobby as well as awaken a scientific, artistic or historical interest that may linger well into later childhood. Newly independent readers will enjoy the easy-to-read text and the fascinating details in these series, which are supported by boxes of related information, helpful definitions of new terms and often a sprinkling of entertaining jokes and riddles.

The Lenox Library Association Youth Department is holding its fourth annual LEGO Build-a-Thon on Saturday, March 19 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Junior engineers, ages 5 to 14, may register at the youth desk or by calling 637-0197 ext. 105. All participants must bring their own Legos. Construction starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 10:15. A zipline demonstration will be held from 10: 15 to 10:45. Lego designs should be original, built from scratch in the library and capable of operating on a fishing line. Lego prizes will be awarded to all participants.

The Lenox Library invites children ages 4 and up to listen to Denise Brunkus, illustrator of the Junie B. series, read Chocolatina and demonstrate the art of illustrating for children. Families will also create a simple chocolate craft and share a favorite chocolate recipe!

Each family should bring their favorite chocolate dessert along with 10 recipes to share.

Chocolatina books and the most recent Junie B titles will be available for purchase & signing. Partial proceeds will benefit the youth department.
