SUMMARY:Banned Bookathon 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate Banned Books Week\, October 4 – 10\, 2026.  This year’s theme is “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.” \n“Banned Books Week is a celebration of the freedom to read and the joy that comes from discovering stories that expand our understanding of ourselves and one another\,” said American Library Association President Sam Helmick. “Every person has the right to seek information and choose books without censorship. When we say ‘Let Books Be\,’ we’re showing up for readers everywhere and reaffirming that libraries are for everyone.” \nOn Tuesday\, October 6\, Lenox Library invites you to proclaim your joy of reading during our all-day Banned Bookathon. Sign up for a 15-minute timeslot(s) to read from your favorite banned book. \nNeed inspiration? Check out this list of the top 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books: 2010-2019 or one of our banned books displays. \nAll bookathon readers will be entered into a raffle to win a Banned Book Bundle with some of our librarians’ favorite “banned” items! \nWe hope you’ll join us in standing up for – and celebrating – our freedom to read!

SUMMARY:Lara Tupper\, Author of At the Center
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to host author Lara Tupper\, in conversation with Alexis Schaitkin\, to talk about her brand new novel At the Center.  Books will be available for purchase and signing. \nAbout the book: Trapped in a dead-end teaching job\, a toxic relationship\, and a cramped Manhattan apartment\, Koögon abandons it all for the Center: a secluded compound devoted to yoga\, “empathic studies\,” and the secret preservation of banned books. At first\, the Center seems like a sanctuary—but Koögon uncovers a thrilling secret. Amid nationwide paper bans\, the Center maintains a black-market cache of blank notebooks\, and Koögon must decide whether it is safe to leave her story for future generations. \nBlending rich characterization with psychological complexity\, At the Center reckons with the loss of printed material\, the climate crisis\, and the destabilizing rise of AI. At its heart\, it is a visceral\, courageous meditation on the power and risk of telling one’s story—out loud and on paper. \nMore details to come.
