SUMMARY:Flora and the Jazzers Storytime and Draw Along with Astrid Sheckels
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Mount (2 Plunkett Street\, Lenox) for a special story time and draw-along with acclaimed author and illustrator Astrid Sheckels! The event is focused on Astrid’s gorgeous new picture book\, Flora and the Jazzers\, a heartwarming tale of a determined young ferret who dreams of moving beyond her role as a scullery maid\, and seeing her favorite band perform. A live drawing demonstration will follow the reading.\n\nBooks will be available for purchase through The Mount’s Gift & Bookstore\, and an author signing will follow the program.\n\nThis Mass Kids Lit Fest event is presented in partnership with the Massachusetts Center for the Book and The Mount. For a full schedule\, please visit https://www.makidslitfest.org/.\n\n*In the event of inclement weather\, this program will be held at the Lenox Library.\n\nAward-winning author/illustrator Astrid Sheckels cannot remember a time when she was not telling or illustrating stories\, especially ones involving imaginary animals. A native of western Massachusetts and growing up in an artistic family\, Astrid spent her childhood playing outside\, using her imagination\, and drawing. Her Scandinavian roots are evident in her artwork\, which she describes as a “mix of classic realism and whimsy.” She is a member of the Western Massachusetts Illustrators Guild and has artwork in the permanent collection of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Astrid’s picture books include the Hector Fox and Friends series\, the Sea Dog series\, Flora and the Jazzers\, and Nic and Nellie. Several exciting new titles are in the works with Waxwing Books.\n\nVisit Astrid’s world at https://www.astridsheckels.com/

SUMMARY:Summer Reading 2026 Kickoff!
DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday\, June 24\, 2026\, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. for our Kickoff Event! \nThis year’s theme is “Plant a seed\, read!” Youth ages 0-17 can participate in this program. \nPick up a folder for Summer Reading and receive: \n\nYour first tracker sheet\nGiveaway prizes\nEvents calendar and flyers\nA ticket for one FREE Hawaiian ice from Kona Ice (their truck will be parked behind the Library from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.)\nA craft to add to our “Garden of Good Intentions”\n\nCan’t make the kickoff? No problem! Pick up a folder any time after this event during regular Library hours.  \nHow Summer Reading works: \n\nUse a tracker sheet to record how much you read.*\n\n\nColor in one bubble on your tracker sheet for every 10 minutes that you read or someone reads to you. Read printed books (including graphic novels!) or ebooks\, or listen to audiobooks or playaways. They all count!\n\n\nWhen you fill up a tracker sheet\, bring it back to Lenox Library to receive a free book and one “Chance to Win” ticket. (You’ll place your “Chance to Win” ticket into the container for the prize you would like to try to win). You also will get another tracker sheet.\n\n\nThe first tracker sheet you turn in also earns you an ice cream gift card!\n\n\nAfter the End of Summer Reading Party\, we will pull one ticket from each container and award that prize to a lucky winner. (Limit one prize per child).\n\n*Summer Reading Challenge: Help us reach our goal of 600 completed tracker sheets! For every one tracker sheet you turn in\, $1.00 will be donated to the Lenox Ecumenical Food Pantry! Thank you to BIRCH Properties for their generous donation! \nJoin us for exciting activities\, listed below\, including our End of Summer Reading Party happening Saturday\, August 22\, 2026\, 12:00-2:00 p.m. We will learn how many tracker sheets were turned in and if we reached our donation goal!
