1000 Books

Dear Parents/Caregivers:

We invite you to participate in this free program that encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she starts kindergarten!

Supplies will be available starting June 7, 2025!

If you read just 1 book every night, you will have read 365 books in 1 year. That is 730 books in 2 years and 1,095 books in 3 years! If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think.

The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) every day to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler – and yes, you can repeat books!

How to participate:

  • Read with your child. Studies have shown that reading with your child provides a great opportunity for bonding. Reading together is fun and will create lifelong memories for the both of you.
  • Keep track of how many books that you read with your child. Use one of the convenient reading log sheets provided, or make a record of what you read in a notebook.
  • Celebrate each milestone! Continue reading to learn about the incentives offered by the Lenox Library!

Reading Incentives Provided by the Lenox Library:

  • At the beginning: You are gifted an information folder with the Lenox Library logo, a free board book, and your first tracker sheet. Your child receives a little paper car with his/her name on it to move forward on our Road to Reading wall.
  • At each 100 books: Check in at the library. Bring your tracker sheet and receive a new one. Move your car along the road to the goal achieved on our Road to Reading wall.
  • At 500 books: Earn a free board book!
  • At 1,000 books: Earn a special certificate and a Lenox Library child size t-shirt!

This program is generously funded by the Lenox Library Association.
