New York lawyer John E. Parsons joined the summer colony at Lenox in the 1870s. His “cottage,” Stonover, was built on Yokun Avenue on the site of the first parsonage for the Church on the Hill. He purchased various parcels from Yokun Avenue stretching all the way to Undermountain Road and beyond, developing the overall acreage into Stonover Farm and Stonover Park.

The Lenox Library recently acquired two photo albums, with pictures of the cottage, farm operations, and carriage roads traversing the park. Taken at the turn of the nineteenth century, the images are all the more impressive when one considers the condition of the parcel today. It is now known as Parsons Marsh.
