On Sunday, December 6, at 4:00 pm, the Lenox Library Association’s 2009-2010 Distinguished Lecture Series continues with a show and lecture by award-winning painter, Joan Griswold. Griswold will present images of her work and bring some actual pieces to show. She will discuss her art work, her interests, and the techniques she uses to paint landscapes, still lifes, interiors, portraits, and more.

Joan Griswold’s work is marked by strong mass and a striking use of light and shade that instantly intrigues the eye. Her signature style came into being when she moved from England to Sheffield, Massachusetts in 1986. Ms. Griswold’s award-winning work has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions, and has been acclaimed in the New York Times and other publications.

“The painter is pitch-perfect and never more so than in her study of a bedside lamp casting a golden glow over the patterns on a wallpaper and a quilt.”
– Vivien Raynor New York Times, August 20, 1995

“an accomplished painter who can evoke either a lively or intimate sense of place at will” – Anna Clune The Artful Mind, June 1999

“Joan Griswold’s still lifes practically invite viewers to step inside” – Sheryl Lechner Berkshire Living September 2008 (To view entire article, visit joangriswold.com/reviews.htm)

Joan Griswold says:

“I aim to capture light. With paint. I enjoy mixing paint, brushing it on, wiping it out and scumbling it back on; I love making what looks like a mess, has all the energy of a mess, up close. But as you step back, the mess becomes a book on a desk, a pillow on a couch, lamplight across a bed.”

Admission to this lecture is FREE and open to all.

No reservations are required.
