About The French Blue

Taking us back to 1631, the novel recounts Jean-Baptiste Tavernier’s six major voyages in search of gems, jewels, and luxury over the course of 40 years in history. THE FRENCH BLUE is about Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, the beautiful woman whom he loves, and the ultimate acquisition of the the worlds most famous gem: a 116 carat diamond now known as The Hope Diamond.

“The fascinating back story of the Hope Diamond.  It is both a delightful read and a treasure trove of insights into the world of the 17th Century gem trade.”

John S. White, Former Curator
National Gem Collection, The Smithsonian

About Richard W. Wise

richard w. wiseRichard W. Wise is, like his main character, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, a restless spirit.  After graduating college, he became a successful Chicago-style community organizer.  A self-taught goldsmith, he became a Graduate Gemologist and, again like his character, an international gem dealer.  Since its publication in 2003, his first book, SECRETS OF THE GEM TRADE: The Connoisseur’s Guide to Precious Gemstones has become a critically acclaimed success, with over 30,000 copies sold.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
