Congratulations, all you GoGreeners! And thanks for making this summer reading program the best one yet. Over 200 of you participated in our program and read a combined total of (drum roll, please!)…2,470 hours –  a new record!

A warm hug from Mother Nature goes to all those of you who finished the reading program. By doing so, you have helped the entire planet go a little greener by supporting the Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees effort to reforest one of the world’s largest rainforest. So far, over 65 trees have been planted – one for each of your completed reading sheets. If you haven’t finished the reading program yet, you still have until the end of August to do so. Bring your completed reading sheet in, earn a GoingGreen seeded bookmark and certificate and, most importantly, be responsible for a tree being planted in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest. For more information on this important effort, check out the Nature Conservancy’s wonderfully educational website: www.plantabillion.org.

We have so many summer memories to treasure: creating fairy houses and toad abodes, cheering on the acrobatic Alex the Jester & the World Yo-Yo Champion, hunting for Phibby the frog, trying to guess what wild critter has been found riding the T in Boston (answer: a coyote – one of nature’s hardiest survivors), and, at last, beating the heat at our ice cream social. We had incredible donated ice cream, thanks to The Scoop and SoCo, and raffle prizes this year. If you have any treasures in mint condition you’d like to donate to next year’s raffle, our 2011 summer reading program theme will be One World, Many Stories.

I’ll be taking some time off during the next few weeks to explore our wonderful country. I’ll try to post photos of any exciting sights along the way, as time and travel technology allows.

Hope to see you all this fall! Here’s to more reading adventures ahead!
