Family Summer Starship Adventures

Two Time World Frisbee Champion, Todd Brodeur, kicks off the Lenox Library Association’s summer reading program, Starship Adventure At Your Library!
Families are invited to an entertaining, educational and inspirational evening which will encourage healthy, active living and creativity. Master of the craft, Todd Brodeur, demonstrates the fun and excitement this simple space-age object can bring to families. Spaceship Adventurers who sign up for the summer reading program during this event will be awarded stellar prizes!

Nationally renowned Catskill Puppet Theater presents Willow Girl
Come celebrate the American spirit with one of the nation’s leading puppet theaters! Through drama, humor and special effects, Willow Girl portrays the story of a young Chinese girl overcoming discrimination on the American frontier with the help of an Irish boy and a magical willow tree. Full sets and large, beautiful puppets and original fiddle music will transport families to a fantasy world rich with wonder and excitement. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lenox Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Ed Popielarczyk’s Magical Moments
Magician Ed Popielarczyk will once again delight and entertain an audience of all ages with balloon creations and magic galore. The audience is invited to participate and everyone spends an evening laughing. Ed’s shows receive rave reviews wherever he performs.

Storyteller Davis Bates & Musician Roger Tincknell: A Constellation of Stories & Songs
Participatory stories and songs presented by two Parents’ Choice award winning performers with over 50 years of combined performing experience. Roger plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, chirango and more, while Davis plays a variety of percussive instruments from many different cultures, including spoons. Always a family favorite!

BUTI Students on Parade Family Concert (Includes music from Star Wars!)
Families will be able to listen to various instrumental ensembles performed by Boston University Tanglewood Institute students, talk to the performers and get a closer look at how each instrument works. This program last summer garnered rave reviews for its appeal to children and adults. The performance is most appropriate for ages 4 and up.

Ivy and Rick’s Rockalicious Family Concert
Ivy and Rick’s Rockalicious are a New York City acoustic duo bringing the classics of rock music to kids and their parents. With their motto “Never Too Young to Rock,” the duo performs tunes by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Dylan, Queen, and The Rolling Stones for the sippy cup generation and beyond.

An Afternoon with Award Winning Children’s Illustrator, Marc Rosenthal
Marc Rosenthal will demonstrate his artistry for families and give them a sneak peek at his upcoming September release, Archie and the Pirates. Mr. Rosenthal is the award winning author of Phooey, illustrator of Dig! and other acclaimed picture books. This program is most appropriate for ages 5 to 12.

Dinoman Space: A fun-filled exploration of dinosaurs, science & our solar system
“Through the solar system and beyond!” is exactly where nationally renowned Dinoman takes his audience in this fast paced exploration of the heavens. The eight classical planets are visited and investigated—as well as Pluto, gravity, and the incredible cold of space. Dinoman Space uses giant inflatable dinosaurs, meteors, comets, liquid air, and a goldfish to give families a truly unique view of the heavens.

Boston Museum of Science’s Night Sky Portable Planetarium for ages 5 and up
First Come, First Served (Limited Capacity: 25 people per presentation)
In the portable planetarium, families will discover what stars, planets, and other astronomical wonders are visible in their own night sky when they take a tour of the solar system and beyond. Useful tips on how to navigate the night sky from one’s own backyard will be provided. Sponsored by Lowell Institute, Bank of America and the Boston Museum of Science.

All Starship Adventurers will be awarded a prize.
