Elm Court, Tanglewood, Shadow Brook…to which town do they belong? Lenox or Stockbridge? Assessors maps tell one story. Contemporary guide books, including The Book of Berkshire by Clark W. Bryan, tell another.
Local History Librarian Amy Lafave will present “An Accident of Border,” using published works on the cottages, newspaper articles, and other material to give historical context to this challenging question.
An accompanying Welles Galley exhibit will feature nine cottages from the book Lenox, a photo album containing “48 views of the finest houses and choicest scenery in Lenox” published by photographer Edward A. Morley in 1886.
