This presentation will provide practical information to empower both immigrants and allies. A caseworker from Berkshire Immigrant Center (BIC) will explain the key legal rights of anyone interacting with immigration enforcement agents, including the role of warrants and how to interpret them. They also will clarify the legal boundaries around bystander support and what to do if someone is detained. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of recent changes to immigration enforcement practices and concrete steps that families can take to prepare for emergencies. Please bring your questions, as there will be time for Q&A after the presentation.
Berkshire Immigrant Center’s mission is to advocate for the rights of all immigrants by helping them navigate the complex U.S. immigration system with affordable legal services, local resources, and education. BIC serves over 800 clients annually with three caseworkers. We envision a future where everyone in the Berkshires can enjoy full and equitable access to opportunities, regardless of where they were born. BIC works to create that future by helping immigrants change or maintain their immigration status; supporting immigrants in building sustainable futures; and helping the Berkshire community grow more welcoming and inclusive for immigrants.
