In the 1949 Librarian’s Report for the Lenox Library Association, Irene Poirier announced the acquisition of an ‘Illustrator’s Library,’ the gift of noted children’s illustrator Elizabeth MacKinstry (1879–1956), who spent her last years in Lenox. MacKinstry’s “tiny collection” of rare illustrated books, an array spanning two centuries, became one of the most significant collections in the library. Selections of these exquisite examples are on display in the bibliotheque located in the Dome Room.
