We are pleased to continue the Distinguished Lecture Series, now in its 18th season.  On Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., the featured speaker will be Paul Catanzaro.

70% of Massachusetts’ forests are family forests. As Professor and State Extension Forester at the University of Massachusetts, Paul Catanzaro’s work integrates research and outreach to family forest owners. The goal of this integrated approach is to learn about family forest owners in order to better inform their decisions. A main focus of his work is to help landowners decide the future of their land through conservation based estate planning. He also is interested in silvicultural approaches to increasing forest resiliency. His outreach methods focus heavily on peer learning, social networks, and internet based tools.

Catanzaro is co-director of the Family Forest Research Center, which studies the behaviors and attitudes of the people who own forests. By investigating the social, political, and economic dimensions of family forest ownership, they seek to improve forest conservation in order to better meet the current and future needs of forest owners, communities, and society. Catanzaro is also a member of the Board of the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition and Chair of the Massachusetts Forester Accrediting Board.

The Distinguished Lecture Series is organized and hosted by Dr. Jeremy Yudkin. Dr. Yudkin is a resident of the Berkshires and Professor of Music and Co-Director of the Center for Beethoven Research at Boston University. Every summer he presents the Lenox Library’s pre-concert lectures for the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood season.
